Apple-Tuna Sandwich

Are you looking ahead for Fall recipes? I know that when it comes to Apples and Autumn you think of Apple Pie, Apply Crisp, Apple Cider, Apple Cobbler, etc...but did you ever think of Apples and Tuna? I bet you didn't!

When I was younger, this is the only way I knew how to make a Tuna Fish sandwich. My mom made them no other way. When I got older, and I ate Tuna Fish at my friends house, I was so surprised to find out they didn't put apple or lettuce in theirs. I enjoy tuna made several different ways, but to be completely honest, this recipe is my all-time favorite!

Apple-Tuna Sandwich
1 5 oz can Tuna fish, drained
4 TBSP Sandwich Spread (not Mayo or Miracle Whip)
1/2 cup chopped Apple
1/2 cup lettuce, cut in to small 3/4 in pieces (I use iceberg)

Mix together in a small bowl.

This will normally make 4 sandwich's but we like a lot on ours, so it only makes 2 thick ones for us!

Don't be afraid to try something
new and different...
that's where this recipe comes in!

  1. Sounds very different. I would never have thought of putting those together. So if you don't use mayo or miracle whip what do you use?

  2. Debby...you use the 4 TBSP of Sandwich Spread. It comes in different brands but still says Sandwich Spread on the label!

  11. Sounds delish! Tuna is a great sandwich and you can do so many different things to tuna to crank of the volume. Hubby likes his plain... I say the more stuff you put in it the better!

  13. Oh Honey - you made me tear up.

My mom always put apples in her tuna fish. I never even thought of making it differently until I was in high school. I had a friend that everytime she came over asked to have tuna fish sandwiches with apples.

My mom said she learned to make it that way when she was in Germany - shortly after she married my father.

Tuna with apples will always bring memories of my mom.
