Country Fried BBQ Chicken Strips

I was in the middle of posting another recipe when my oldest son called to tell me he had a recipe for me to put on my blog! (My kids are such good cooks!) So, I grabbed my camera and note pad and headed on over to his house and this is what I found.....Country Fried BBQ Chicken Strips that are so tender and full of flavor!

And what's even better is my son 'invented' this recipe! How cool is that? I'd like to think I could take some credit for his good cooking skills, but he acquired most of them once he got married.
It does use a few dishes...but well worth a little extra washing for a meal such as this!!

Country Fried BBQ Chicken Strips
2 cups milk
1 egg
1 TBSP Garlic Salt
4 chicken breast, cut in to 1 inch strips
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 TBSP Season Salt
Oil for deep fryer
20 oz bottle BBQ Sauce
(he used a sweet and spicy flavor)

Heat deep fryer to 350*

In a large bowl, mix together milk, egg and garlic salt.
Soak chicken strips in milk mixture for approx 10 - 15 minutes.

Mix flour and season salt in another large bowl.

Dip chicken strips in flour and put in the deep fryer, about 6 pieces at a time.
(I arrived after he had already dipped his chicken)

Fry chicken until a light golden color,
or until juices run clear

In a large skillet, add BBQ sauce
and heat until HOT and reduce heat to simmer.
Remove chicken from fryer, drain and add to BBQ Sauce.
Stir until each piece is covered.

Add chicken strips to a large heated skillet, and place lid on skillet.
This process will allow the steam to continue to cook the chicken while the sauce soaks in to the batter.

My grand-daughter wrote down the recipe for me...
of course, I had to re-write it but I didn't tell her that!

I don't think I've ever tried chicken strips cooked this way.
I'm sure I would have remembered them if I had.
Sweet, spicy, tender, and juicy....

  1. This is actually something that he just invented himself. We just used the BBQ sauce we bought from the restaurant. He has made this before and they turned out really good!
